Happy Birthday, Molly!
Molly turns seven today
like as not in the usual way
with a twist and a shout
and some Beatles, no doubt,
and big cheers they will hear far away
The presents for her will be piled
in a fashion incomparably styled
she'll have new things to wear
and new toys to compare
or her name ain't Amalia Schwarzschild
She used to live back in The City
in the borough of Brooklyn, near Smitty's
she would sit on her stoop
and espy some dog poop
and think, why must that be? what a pity.
She's living in Africa now
(it sounds strange but it happened somehow)
she walks down the street
hears the clatter of feet
and surprise - it's a goat or a cow!
Amalia's polite and she follows
up promptly on gifts that she swallows
she'll make sure to send
Ethiopian friends
her biggest ameuseugenallos
After months upon months of long waiting
to the Hilton we go celebrating
she'll eat sugar and spice
and a whole lot of rice
only nightfall will see her abating
July has come round and, by golly,
it's no wonder we're all feeling jolly,
it's that time of the year
when we all give a cheer
and shout out "Happy Birthday to Molly!!!"
The day was a busy one, as you can see from the pictures at Molly's Birthday Pictures . Molly awoke at 7am and was greeted by Maddie and Isabel who had been waiting an hour already to present to her a Birthday Throne and Crown. Molly opened presents and listened the Beatles' "Birthday" and to the poem above. Then we went to the Hilton for swimming, mini-golf, more presents, and buffet, and finished up the day with fabulous brick oven pizza at Antiqua, joined by both John and T.D. (our landlord, who also brought a delicision cake).
